Natural Connections

Modern life in Scotland is increasingly busy. The connections our ancestors had with nature and the land are being lost. As leisure time shrinks, or is filled with hi-tech experiences, opportunities to experience nature become fewer. And yet it is possible to connect with nature on a day to day basis. Yesterday's Mistle Thrush pair were chasing off an intruder from what I took to be their nest tree this afternoon. The pair of Goosanders were back on the river under the Cardonald Place footbridge. Jackdaws were taking nest material into an old woodpecker hole in a dead Spanish Chestnut and a Moorhen was dragging away a stick about twice its body length.
