Natural Connections

Modern life in Scotland is increasingly busy. The connections our ancestors had with nature and the land are being lost. As leisure time shrinks, or is filled with hi-tech experiences, opportunities to experience nature become fewer. And yet it is possible to connect with nature on a day to day basis. All around us, the great web of life continues to hold its shape, and nature continues its eternal cycles. Keep looking, listening, smelling, touching - and keep experiencing natural connections.

Today was mostly taken up travelling from Buckie to Wick. The weather wasn’t really conducive to natural connections. However a walk around the town produced four Redshanks along the river, Biting Stonecrop on the masonry of an old well and two Swifts zooming round some ordinary houses before one entered a gap under the roof of one of them. OR: Two Swifts were calling over Well Road, Buckie first thing. At the other end of the day, two more were over Willowbank in Wick with one of the birds entering a probable nest site on one of the cottage flats.
