With the daylength at its longest, I decided to start the day by watching the sunrise from Loudoun Hill near Darvel in East Ayrshire. I was treated to a perfect orange sun rising over the mist-covered landscape. Birds on the walk up to the summit included Blackcap, Willow Warler, Linnet, Meadow Pipit, Chaffinch, Wren and Song Thrush. Birds heard at the summit consisted of Curlew, Pheasant and more Meadow Pipits. The walk back down added Raven (4), Oystercatcher, Nuthatch, Grey Wagtail, Pied Wagtail and a male Redstart singing strongly from a row of Beech trees.
