One of the first sounds heard on arriving at the Overtoun Estate first thing this morning was the distant yaffle of a Green Woodpecker. Over the next two hours I had amazing views of at least three birds calling loudly from the treetops and flying up and down the hillside. Also encountered during a walk up to the crags and back were a Wheatear and two Willow Warblers (both season's first for me), Stonechat, Dipper, Grey Wagtail, Lesser Redpoll, Buzzard, Raven and at least three singing Nuthatches. I hear the latter almost everywhere I go these days. This time of year must be peak-Nuthatch-song-time.

"The grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls".
