I heard a Willow Warbler singing in the scrubland behind the house today, the first time I have heard the species locally for several weeks. I wonder if it signifies the beginning of a second breeding attempt. The local Mallards are apparently coming to the end of their breeding season with several females back on the river (unfortunately only a few with any young left) and theit mates moulting into eclipse plumage. A Jackdaw was noisily scolding two Carrion Crows while escorting two newly-fledged chicks (one of which clumsily landed on the vertical wall of a house and hung there by one foot).
